Islamic Scholars Declared it Against Sharia to Buy Gifts from Toshakhana at Low Price

Famous Pakistani clerics denounced the current law that permits buying gifts from the state depository at discount prices because they were not the private property of anybody and only belonged to the country as a trust in the midst of the Toshakhana dispute by issuing a fatwa (religious decree).

In the decision, Muftis Raghib Hussain Naeemia, Imran Hanfi, Nadeem Qamar, and Arif Hussain of Jamia Naeemia declared that the gift-retention rule was “un-Islamic” and emphasised that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had specifically forbade keeping a gift given to a person in a position of authority.
