In an industry-first, Bona Film Group’s Deputy Manager Xiaojiang Quji has announced the release of “A Legend,” a film featuring a 27-year-old digitally recreated Jackie Chan. The movie, which is expected to hit Chinese theaters in July, is heralded as the world’s first to star a digital celebrity created using artificial intelligence technology.

The announcement was made at a forum where Xiaojiang Quji detailed the use of cutting-edge AI to bring back the youthful image of Jackie Chan. The film is scheduled to premiere on July 12, marking a significant milestone as the first cinema release starring an AI-generated digital star. “In ‘A Legend,’ the AI-restored image of Jackie Chan accounts for over 70% of the performance,” she revealed.

“A Legend,” directed by acclaimed Hong Kong filmmaker Stanley Tong, is the sequel to the 2005 hit “The Myth.” The film continues the fantasy adventure narrative, leading audiences from mysterious archaeological sites to the vast ancient battlefields. The production of “A Legend” represents a significant breakthrough for AI on the big screen, with the technology being deeply integrated into Chinese film production to create compelling visual effects. The film’s release is not only a milestone for the movie industry but also showcases the remarkable advancements in AI technology.
