Japan Provides 9 Million USD for Sewerage, Drainage Services in Multan

1,236 million Japanese Yen would be provided by the Government of Japan in order to upgrade the mechanical system of sewerage and drainage services in Multan.

Recently, a signing ceremony was organized at the Ministry of Economic Affairs along with the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the presence of the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, HONDA Taro, who is on a visit to Pakistan. WADA Mitsuhiro, Ambassador of Japan, KINOSHITA Yasumitsu, Chief Representative of JICA, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Minister for Economic Affairs, Mian Asad Hayaud Din, Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and other officials from both the countries were present at the ceremony.

As per the sources, Mulhan has faced constant flooding of roads in urban areas due to sewer blockage which results as road closure and sanitary problems.

Even though the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Multan tried to improve their services by repairing their old equipment for cleaning sewer pipes and reuse it where the equipment is most needed.

This project would address the stated issue by enhancing the sewerage equipment, such as cleaning equipment and drainage pumps, to effectively maintain the sewer pipes and channels. This would be convenient to have a improved and enhanced sewerage services and contribute to sustainable sanitation in the region.

Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed the gratitude to the Government of Japan for their exceptional support and for providing high quality and ample cooperation in development sector for decades.

Vice-Minister HONDA also addressed in the signing ceremony and expressed gratitude towards the diplomatic relations between both the nation. and stated that he is delighted to be a part of ceremony, this would strengthen the bond between Japan and Pakistan.

In addition, Since 1954, Japan has given development assistance to Pakistan for approximately $11.7 billion, confirmed through sources.
