K-Electric to Reduce Electricity Prices for January

K-Electric (KE) has confirmed a reduction in electricity prices for January 2025, offering relief to its customers after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for October 2024.

The adjustment will result in a decrease of Rs0.492 per unit for KE consumers. This reduction comes as part of NEPRA’s regular review of electricity generation costs, which fluctuate due to global fuel price changes and variations in the energy mix used by power producers.

K-Electric highlighted that these adjustments are a routine practice, with both increases and decreases passed on to customers after careful scrutiny and approval by NEPRA. The reduction reflects the impact of declining global fuel prices during the assessed period.

The price cut will be applied to all customer categories except electric vehicle charging stations, lifeline users, prepaid meter consumers, and agricultural customers.

KE clarified that the final implementation of the adjustment depends on a formal notification from the federal government.

This move underscores KE’s commitment to ensuring that its pricing aligns with regulatory decisions and market trends, providing cost relief to its customers whenever possible. The reduction offers a much-needed reprieve for Karachi residents as fuel costs globally show signs of easing.
