Kites, String Banned in Karachi for Two Months

On Saturday, Karachi Commissioner Saleem Rajput announced a two-month ban on kite-flying and the sale of kite strings in the city due to a significant increase in accidents and injuries caused by dangerous kite strings.

This ban, implemented under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), prohibits the production, sale, and flying of kites throughout Karachi from March 30 to May 29.

The decision to impose this ban was prompted by the serious risks associated with the use of hazardous metal strings commonly used in kite-flying activities.

Sadly, these dangerous strings have already resulted in eight reported injuries, highlighting the urgent need for intervention to protect the well-being and safety of the residents of Karachi.

Commissioner Saleem Rajput emphasized the severe dangers linked with kite-flying and underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing the protection of citizens’ lives. He stressed that the primary objective of implementing this ban is to mitigate the risks and prevent further accidents and injuries caused by the lethal kite strings.

The ultimate goal is to create a safer and more secure environment for the residents of Karachi by enhancing public safety and reducing the incidence of kite-flying related accidents.

In addition to the ban, the city authorities are taking proactive measures to raise awareness about the potential dangers associated with kite-flying and to promote responsible and safe recreational activities within the community.

They are conducting awareness campaigns and educational programs to inform the public about the risks of using dangerous kite strings and to encourage the adoption of safer alternatives.

City officials and law enforcement agencies will be actively monitoring and enforcing the ban to ensure compliance and to prevent the sale and use of kites and dangerous strings during the specified period.

They are committed to taking strict action against violators of the ban to uphold public safety and protect the residents from the potential hazards associated with kite-flying.

The implementation of this ban by Commissioner Saleem Rajput reflects a proactive and responsible approach to address a pressing safety concern in Karachi.

The city authorities are hopeful that this decisive action will effectively reduce the number of kite-flying incidents and significantly improve the safety and security of the residents, ultimately creating a safer environment for everyone in Karachi.
