KP’s Parachinar Airport Set to Reopen After Years of Closure

Pakistan is moving closer to launching satellite internet services as the country’s regulatory framework reaches its final stage.

The Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board has prepared draft rules, which are currently under final review and consultation. Officials said the process is nearing completion, and approval is expected soon.

Federal IT Minister Shiza Fatima Khawaja confirmed that the government is working to finalize the framework in coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. The new rules focus on key areas such as security, spectrum allocation, and creating a business-friendly environment for investors.

Once approved, the framework will allow satellite internet providers to offer services across the country. These services will include broadband access, backhaul support for telecom networks, and data solutions for businesses.

Global companies like Starlink and OneWeb have already shown interest in entering the Pakistani market. Their involvement could bring advanced technology and improve internet access nationwide.

Officials believe that satellite internet will play an important role in reducing the digital divide. Many remote and underserved areas in Pakistan still lack reliable internet connectivity, which affects education, business, and communication.

By introducing satellite-based services, the government aims to provide faster and more reliable internet access in such regions. This step is expected to support economic growth, digital inclusion, and better access to online services.

Authorities say the final approval of the framework will open new opportunities in the country’s technology and telecom sectors.
