Lahore High Court Declares Fuel Price Adjustment on Electricity Bill “illegal”

On Monday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ruled that it was unlawful to collect the fuel price adjustment from power users.

On 3,659 similar petitions submitted opposing the imposition of the fuel price adjustment, Justice Baqir Najfai rendered a decision. Until October 2022, the decision on petitions was postponed. The court also mandated that consumers be charged for the quarterly tariff adjustment.

Justice Najfi further demanded that the government urge the production of energy through social power and other sources, in addition to directing the government to offer subsidies to households using up to 500 units per month.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) was also given a directive by the LHC to take action against individuals who overcharge electricity users.

He affirmed that Islamabad stands behind our ally nation and its people in these trying times and promised to offer Turkey the most support possible.
