Lahore Sees Relief as Air Quality Drops Below Hazardous Category

Lahore’s air quality showed some improvement on Sunday as its Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped from the “hazardous” category. For weeks, the city had been covered in thick smog and faced dangerously high levels of pollution.

Currently, Lahore’s AQI stands at 295, which is categorized as “very unhealthy.” While this is an improvement from the earlier extreme levels, the city’s air quality is still a major concern. According to the Swiss air monitoring group IQ Air, Lahore is now the second most polluted city in the world.

New Delhi, India, remains the most polluted city with a staggering AQI of 751, emphasizing the widespread air pollution problem in the region.

The improvement in Lahore’s air quality is a small relief for its residents, but it highlights the need for urgent action to tackle pollution. Air quality in the region continues to have serious health implications, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

Environmental experts stress the importance of reducing emissions from vehicles, industries, and other sources. Planting more trees, promoting clean energy, and enforcing stricter pollution control measures are essential steps for improving air quality in cities like Lahore.

Although the AQI has dropped slightly, Lahore and its residents continue to face the challenge of living in an environment with harmful air. The city needs long-term solutions to reduce pollution and ensure cleaner air for its people.
