A new album with previously unheard recordings by the legendary qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is set to be released on September 20, more than 27 years after his death.
The album is called “Chain of Light.” It was discovered in the tape archives of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan signed with Real World Records in 1989 and released several well-received albums with them in the 1990s.
Recorded at Real World Studios in April 1990, the album features Nusrat and his eight-member group performing four traditional qawwali tracks. Among these tracks is one that has never been heard before, highlighting Nusrat’s incredible vocal skills in high-quality sound.
This release will allow fans to experience Nusrat’s music in a new way, appreciating his talent and the rich tradition of qawwali. The discovery of these recordings is a significant find, adding to Nusrat’s already impressive legacy and giving listeners a fresh glimpse into his extraordinary artistry.
