Tonight, those who love looking at the sky are in for a special treat called the “Pink Moon” or Supermoon. Even though it’s called the Pink Moon, it won’t actually look pink.
The name comes from a type of plant called the herb moss pink, also known as creeping phlox or moss phlox. These plants grow in the eastern part of the United States.
The herb moss pink is one of the first flowers to bloom widely in spring, so it’s a symbol of the season’s arrival. That’s why the full moon in April is called the Pink Moon.
Even though the moon won’t be pink, it’s still really beautiful and meaningful. It’s a chance for people to appreciate the amazing things in nature and the universe. So, tonight, take a moment to look up at the sky and enjoy the wonder of the Pink Moon, even if it’s not actually pink!
