Karachi: In the tsunami of runs during PSL 8 Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been named the highest scoring T20 event.
Especially because the Rawalpindi field turned out to be a batter’s dream, the Pakistan Super League 8 proved to be quite exciting, where the fans got to watch interesting matches and several records were also made.
Rawalpindi Stadium hosted 11 matches this season and almost every match made it to the record book, here the target of 240 plus was crossed twice within 3 days, while earlier it happened only 3 times in about 12,000 T20 matches. It is a world record in T20 cricket.
In this edition, the run rate at the Pindi Stadium was 10.28, thus breaking the record of Edgbaston, where the run rate during the 2018 T20 Blast was 9.17.
The tournament also won the title of high-scoring T20 event, the overall run rate in the eighth edition was 9.2, while the previous highest run rate of 8.99 in a tournament with at least 20 matches was in The Hundred Men’s Event 2022.
A total of 7 individual centuries were scored in PSL 8, out of which 5 were made in Pindi Stadium, so far this is the highest number of centuries in any PSL edition, but the fact is that a total of 13 centuries were scored in 7 editions played before. This time, a new record of 498 sixes and 1094 fours was also made in the event, before this, 440 sixes and 1012 fours were hit in the 2021 edition.
Shaheen Shah Afridi has started to mold himself as an all-rounder, before this edition, he scored 20 plus runs only once in his T20 career but improved his highest score twice in this event, 52 runs in the league stage from Peshawar Zalmi and then an unbeaten 44 off 15 balls in the final. He also took 4 wickets each.
Before him, only one player, Brad Hodge, had scored 40 plus and took four wickets twice in a tournament for Lancashire in the T20 Cup in 2005. In this tournament, Abbas Afridi and Ehsanullah of Multan Sultans showed their talent clearly, Abbas also took a hat-trick.
