Meet the World’s first ever hijab-wearing professional skater, Zahra Lari

Muslim women are making wonders all over the globe and nothing seems to stop them. Zahra Lari is an extraordinary woman who has become the first female hijab-wearing figure-skater in the world to compete internationally.

In 2012, when she was only 17, she debuted as a professional skater representing her UAE country, Zahra 22. She performed with a matching headscarf while adjusting her see-through outfits with opaque ones.

The competition judges subtracted points due to this sheer act of dressing up differently. In an effort to get cultural diversity recognized around the board, she soon promised to change the rules of the Skating Union.

Lari is now working to amend the rules of the International Skating Union to encourage women to wear the hijab on the ice openly.
