Milk vendors across Karachi are feeling the pinch after a recent price hike resulted in declining sales. In neighborhoods like Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gulistan Johar and Landhi, vendors have slashed milk prices in an effort to entice customers back.
“Sales dropped off sharply after we raised prices last month,” explained Ahmed, a vendor in Nazimabad. “Families just had less money to spend. We realized we needed to bring prices back down if we want to stay in business.”
Vendors like Ahmed have reduced prices back to Rs 180 per liter in most parts of the city. The drop from previous rates is welcome relief for many household budgets.
Some enterprising vendors are even offering deals to boost demand. “We’re giving away a free half liter with every liter purchased,” said Farhan, a vendor in Liaquatabad. “It’s our way of saying thank you to our loyal customers during these difficult economic times.”
For Karachi residents feeling squeezed by the cost of living, the milk price reduction and promotions couldn’t come at a better time. Vendors hope the deals will help shore up sales after the earlier price hike nearly decimated demand. Time will tell whether the latest incentives are enough to get customers buying again.
