On Sunday, UN Women Pakistan, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the campaign for women’s safe travel.
According to a release, the contract was signed at the Islamabad Airport and contains a vow to improve collaboration as well as a pledge to prevent women from being harassed in public areas.
According to the agreement, the PIA and UN Women will raise awareness and fight for a safe travel environment for all women, including aircrew and PIA passengers, at airports, offices, and on flights.
“This makes PIA the first airline in the world, as well as the first corporate sector organization in Pakistan, to promote such an effort under the UN banner, with a public pledge and an implementation plan to ensure a safer travel and work environment for women,” according to the statement.
