NEPRA has approved a reduction of Rs. 1.71 per unit in electricity prices across Pakistan, including Karachi, for the period from April to June 2025. This decision comes after the federal government proposed additional subsidies for electricity consumers.
These subsidies will be provided through the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) and will not affect the tariffs already set by NEPRA. This means that consumers will continue to pay the same prices determined by NEPRA, with the added benefit of the subsidy.
The price reduction will apply to all consumers of XWDISCOs and K-Electric, with the exception of lifeline consumers. Lifeline consumers are those who use a minimal amount of electricity and are already receiving special assistance.
The government aims to provide some relief to electricity users by lowering the cost, which can help ease the financial strain many consumers face due to rising energy costs. This move will ensure that the existing tariff structure remains in place while offering extra support to electricity users.
The decision is expected to bring some financial relief to households and businesses during the specified period, helping to reduce their electricity bills. However, the price cut is temporary, and consumers will need to stay informed about any future adjustments or changes in tariffs.
