Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has launched a new tool called “Imagine with Meta,” which lets you create pictures by describing them in words. It’s like a game and uses special technology to turn text into images, similar to tools like OpenAI’s DALL-E. This tool is now available for free in the United States, providing four pictures for each description.
Meta faced issues in the past with picture-making tools, including one that created stickers with racial bias. To prevent such problems, Meta plans to add invisible watermarks to pictures created by “Imagine with Meta” in the future. Watermarks are secret marks on the pictures, showing they were made by the AI tool, aiming for more transparency.
These watermarks will be added gradually and shouldn’t change how the pictures look. They are designed to be difficult to remove, addressing concerns about fake and harmful content created by AI. Other companies and countries are also working on rules and tools to indicate when pictures are generated by AI.
