Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have introduced a temporary registration service for mobile phones brought from outside Pakistan. As per the system, you can use your mobile phone for 120 days without paying PTA tax.
This new system is aimed to facilitate foreign nationals visiting Pakistan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable guests including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTA Chairman Maj Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Federal Minister IT & Telecom Syed Aminul Haque, and others.
Requirements
In order to avail of this facility, applicants must provide the following:
- Passport number.
- Mobile SIM card in their name.
- Date of arrival and departure.
- IMEI number of the device.
After 120 days, the mobile phone will not be functional on the local network service.
How the System Works
Under this new service, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) work together and exchange the immigration data verifying the applicant’s arrival date through FIA IBMS. When the applicant will apply for this service, the immigration staff will enter their data into their system and activate their phones.
The initiative reflects the government’s efforts to facilitate overseas Pakistanis and other foreign nationals.
