Over 100 Parliament Members Not Paying Income Tax: FBR

Recently, over a hundred members of parliament either do not pay income tax or are not registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

A total of 161 of the 1,170 MPs have not paid any taxes or filed any tax reports. While jointly having assets worth Rs. 35 billion, these MPs are in violation of tax regulations. Some are not even registered with the tax authorities, according to official data.

According to the official documents, more than 103 MPs have a combined net worth of Rs. 8 billion but are not active taxes. A few dozen aren’t even registered as taxpayers with the FBR.

However, 76 of the 103 members of parliament are from major political parties, while two are ministers in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government. Official documents show that these lawmakers are on the list of “inactive taxpayers.”

In the previous decade, four MPs who are not active taxpayers have purchased houses worth millions of pounds in Dubai, Norway, and London. Whereas, around a dozen of them have declared businesses in the country, such as construction companies and petrol stations.
