For the domestic consumer more than 300% rates might be increase by the government in order to meet the revenue of gas expenses for the current financial year 2022-23, according to the sources.
Earlier, 45% increment has been allotted in the gas rates by the OGRA for two gas suppliers SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited) and SSGCL (Sui Southern Gas Company Limited).
The regulator has forwarded its proposal to the federal government for the reversal of dates. However, the final decision would be taken by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the increment in the rates of gas.
Government has recently conducted a consultation in order to finalize the proposal for a raise in prices. It is to notify that no increase has been suggested for the consumers in slab 1 @Rs173 per mmbtu.
While, the proposal to increase the rates by 43% is suggested for the consumers in slab 2 from Rs121 to Rs173 per mmbtu, while the rates of Rs300 per mmbtu for the consumers in slab 3 remains constant.
