LONGi, a leading solar solutions provider from China, has released its sixth annual corporate sustainability report, highlighting its efforts in environmental, social, and governance practices over the past year. Pakistan is an important market for LONGi, and the company has exported over 1GW of solar panels to Pakistan since 2020, marking a significant milestone.
Pakistan faces the challenges of climate change and sustainable development, making photovoltaic power generation an attractive solution to address its power shortage and optimize its energy structure. Photovoltaic products from LONGi have generated a cumulative output of clean electricity exceeding 1,148,287 GWh, which is equivalent to avoiding 536 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Both distributed and centralized PV systems have demand in the Pakistani market. Distributed PV systems, such as rooftop solar installations, are gaining popularity, aided by net metering policies and incentives that allow consumers to offset their electricity bills by exporting excess power back to the grid. On the other hand, the government is focusing on the development of large-scale centralized PV projects, including solar parks and utility-scale installations, to diversify the energy mix and increase renewable energy capacity.
The Pakistani PV market is attracting both local and international players. In 2022, China’s exports of photovoltaic modules to Pakistan reached approximately USD 870 million, with a total installed capacity of 3.2GW, showing a significant year-on-year increase.
These developments indicate the growing importance of renewable energy, particularly solar power, in Pakistan’s quest for sustainable and reliable electricity generation.
