Pakistan Achieves 13 Out of 15 Goals Set to Promote IT Sector in 5 Months: Dr. Umar Saif

Dr. Umar Saif, the Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, shared that the caretaker government has made significant progress in achieving 13 out of 15 goals aimed at boosting the IT sector and enhancing exports within a short span of 5 months.

Among the notable accomplishments is the decision to permit IT companies to keep 50% of their export earnings in dollars, leading to a noteworthy 32% rise in IT exports. Additionally, the establishment of the Telecom Tribunal is set to streamline dispute resolution in the telecom industry, with the tribunal comprising a chairperson and two technocrats appointed by the Ministry of Law.

Moreover, initiatives such as the implementation of the Right of Way Policy and the initiation of a research and development fund for mobile phone manufacturing are currently in progress. Efforts are also underway to enhance IT education in collaboration with various stakeholders, with plans to create job opportunities through the Industry Placement Program for graduates and allocate funds for industry-aligned courses in universities.
