Pakistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and the United States have established a new diplomatic platform to assist Afghanistan’s stability and long-term peace, as well as regional trade.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, “representatives of the United States, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan agreed in principle to establish a new quadrilateral diplomatic platform focused on improving regional connectivity.”
“The parties recognize the importance of long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan for regional connectivity, and agree that peace and regional connectivity are mutually reinforcing,” the FO statement stated.
The countries had also recognized the “historic potential to establish booming international trade lines”, and wanted to work together to grow trade, build transit linkages, and strengthen business to business ties, according to the statement.
The parties agreed to meet in the next months to work out the details of their partnership.
On Twitter, the US State Department said it was looking forward to working with the three countries on regional cooperation, calling it a “cornerstone to a sustained peace.”
