Pakistan Becomes First Team to Lose Test by an Inning After Scoring 500+ Runs

Pakistan’s struggles in Test cricket continue as they suffer their sixth straight defeat, this time against England by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test. Despite posting an impressive 556 runs in their first innings, Pakistan’s batting failed in the second innings, collapsing to just 220-9.

England declared their innings at a massive 823-7, with Pakistan unable to match their performance. Jack Leach played a key role for England, taking four wickets in only seven overs. Abrar Ahmed, Pakistan’s bowler, was unable to bat due to illness, leaving the team one player short.

This loss is particularly worrying for Pakistan as it marks their seventh defeat at home and the first time a team has lost a Test match by an innings after scoring over 500 runs in their first innings.

Pakistan hasn’t won a home Test since 2022, and under Shan Masood’s captaincy, the team’s form has continued to decline. With this defeat, Pakistan now trails 0-1 in the ongoing three-match series against England, raising concerns about their future in Test cricket.
