According to international weather reports, Pakistan is expected to get more than usual rainfall during this year’s monsoon season. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also shared its latest update, saying that temperatures between April and June will be higher than normal. However, the amount of rainfall during this time is expected to stay close to the usual seasonal levels.
Some areas, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, might not get enough rain. These regions are likely to see below-average rainfall, which can cause water shortages. The country has already experienced a 61% decrease in winter rainfall this year, and snowfall was also very low.
Because of this, water levels in major dams have fallen below the “dead level,” which means water can no longer flow properly from them. This situation may affect water availability in the coming months.
In Karachi, one of Pakistan’s biggest cities, the fast pace of urban development has created another challenge. The concrete roads and buildings make it difficult for rainwater to absorb into the ground.
To deal with this, the PMD has advised the government and citizens to take steps toward rainwater harvesting. This means collecting and storing rainwater for later use, which can help reduce water shortage problems.
A more detailed and final forecast for the monsoon season will be shared by the PMD in late May. Until then, experts are closely watching the weather patterns to understand how they may impact different parts of the country.
People are advised to stay updated and prepare for the changing weather. Farmers, city planners, and water authorities especially need to take this early warning seriously and make proper plans to manage water wisely.
