In the midst of load shedding in Balochistan’s coastline region, Pakistani authorities have demanded that the Iranian government normalise its power supply situation, according to Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar.
The federal minister stated in a series of tweets on Thursday that electricity shortages in Iran have resulted in load shedding in Pakistan’s Gwadar, Turbat, and Makraan regions.
“These places aren’t connected to the national grid and are completely reliant on Iranian power,” Azhar explained. The federal minister went on to say that they had raised the issue with their neighbour and demanded that the power supply be restored.
Gwadar, Pakistan’s port city is an important component in the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a $65 billion investment plan aimed at connecting western China to Gwadar, Pakistan’s southern port. In recent weeks, Iran has experienced significant water shortages, resulting in power disruptions in areas served by hydroelectric units.
