According to the Petroleum Commission’s study, which was made public after the federal cabinet’s permission, smuggling of petroleum products costs Pakistan Rs240 billion each year.
During the 2019-20 fiscal year, the Commission identified 486 filling stations around the country and recovered 27,911,746 litres of illicit gasoline and 997,037,434 litres of smuggled diesel, accounting for barely 20% of all smuggled products.
With tax cheating, four times more illicit petroleum has made its way into the country.
The national exchequer has lost roughly 240 billion rupees as a result of it all.
