Pakistan Medical & Dental Council Sets Rs. 18 Lakhs Annual Limit on Private MBBS, BDS Fees

The federal government has decided to limit MBBS and BDS tuition fees in private medical and dental colleges to Rs1.8 million per year. This decision was made by the Committee on Medical Education Reforms under the Prime Minister’s directive to make medical education more affordable for students.

According to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), any institution that wants to charge up to Rs2.5 million per year must provide valid financial justifications. To ensure fairness, all future fee changes will be regulated and linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), preventing unnecessary increases.

This step is seen as a major reform to improve accessibility in medical education, especially for students from low- and middle-income backgrounds. The government’s goal is to make quality medical education more affordable while still ensuring that private institutions remain financially stable.

By introducing these regulations, the government aims to create a balanced system where students can pursue their medical dreams without excessive financial burdens, and private colleges can continue to operate sustainably. This reform is expected to bring greater transparency to tuition fees and reduce financial stress on aspiring doctors and their families.
