Pakistan Railways to Privatize Seven More Passenger Trains

Pakistan Railways has announced plans to outsource the operations of seven passenger trains to private companies. Interested bidders can submit their proposals until February 25.

The trains included in this outsourcing plan are Hazara Express, Karachi Express, Farid Express, Bahauddin Zakaria Express, Sukkur Express, Rawalpindi Express, and Mohenjo Daro Express. Railway officials have made it clear that these trains will not be privatized. Instead, outsourcing is aimed at improving passenger facilities and increasing revenue, while Pakistan Railways retains ownership.

This decision comes shortly after a 5% increase in train fares, which was implemented on February 5. The fare hike applies to all classes, including economy, business, saloon services, and outsourced trains. The increase is mainly due to rising fuel costs.

By outsourcing these trains, Pakistan Railways hopes to enhance service quality, ensure better management, and attract more passengers, ultimately benefiting both travelers and the railway sector.
