In view of the imminent increase of electric vehicles (EVs) across the country, Pakistan Railways has agreed to set up electric charging stations on its land, across Pakistan.
Industry experts say that major changes in the sector are likely to occur, following the implementation of the EV policy in Pakistan.
Pakistan Railways will be offering to develop EV charging points in several of its areas across the country. His ministry has proposed the use of its entire network and all of its stations for this purpose.
According to a media report, Pakistan Railways have prepared a proposal under which the private sector will be given vacant plots next to its railway stations, for the construction of EV charging stations. Three to ten vehicles will be able to accommodate each station.
Over 100 spots have been found across Sindh (including Karachi Cantt Station and City Railway Station) where it is possible to set up electric charging points.
Applications from private companies involved in building EV power stations have reportedly been invited by the Ministry of Railways.
The fares for the proposed charging points will be calculated according to railway officials, after considering the suggestions of interested companies and after analyzing their market value.
