Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia, marking a significant step in their growing energy partnership. The Russian embassy in Islamabad confirmed this achievement and acknowledged Iran’s role in facilitating the delivery.
The shipment, which amounted to 100,000 metric tonnes of LPG, was transported through Iran’s Sarakhs Special Economic Zone. Discussions are ongoing for a future shipment, but specific details about Iran’s involvement and pricing have not been disclosed.
Pakistan had previously conducted transactions for Russian crude oil using the Chinese currency, although the exact value of this deal was not revealed. Since energy imports are a substantial part of Pakistan’s external payments, the discounted imports from Russia are seen as crucial support amid the country’s economic challenges and pressing issues with its external debt, potentially helping prevent a default.
