The International Olive Council (IOC) has voted to accept Pakistan as a full member, claiming that the country has enormous potential for producing olive oil for both internal and export usage.
Pakistan is a member of the International Olive Council (IOC), which is an international organisation of countries that produce olives or products produced from olives, such as oil.
Abdellatif Ghedira, the IOC’s Chief Executive officer, is now in Pakistan at the request of the Pakistan Oil Seeds Development Board.
Mr Ghedira told the media that Pakistan was now well positioned to join the council as a full member after visiting olive farms and examining the possibilities of olive oil production in Pakistan with the government and research scientists.
Pakistan’s full membership will boost international cooperation, bring Pakistan’s olive oil industry closer to the council, and encourage the use of IOC standards in global markets.
The council, which funds national programmes of member countries on an annual basis, is likely to fund Pakistan’s olive development initiative.
Mr. Ghedira ended his tour to Pakistan on a positive note, stating that the government has launched a large effort to boost the olive oil sector, citing the country’s favourable climate for growing olive types.
He stated that because Pakistan has standard processing factories and research laboratories, the council would assist Pakistan in obtaining accreditation.
