Pakistan, Turkiye vow to Elevate Strategic Partnership to ‘Greater Heights

On May 25, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul to strengthen the close relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed to work more closely in key areas such as trade, defense, energy, and technology. They highlighted the importance of building stronger ties that benefit both countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his deep appreciation for Turkiye’s strong support during the recent tensions between Pakistan and India. He said Turkiye’s backing during that time meant a lot to the people of Pakistan.

The two leaders also reviewed the progress made since their last meeting at the 7th High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. They discussed new steps to boost cooperation and ensure ongoing projects are completed successfully.

One of the key goals they talked about was increasing annual trade between the two countries to $5 billion. Both leaders agreed that with better planning, strong partnerships, and mutual trust, this goal could be achieved soon.
