Pakistani Markhors Paying Frequent Visits To India Through LOC

Kazinag National Park, in the Limber area of north Kashmir’s Boniyar sector, is home to the Markhor. It is surrounded by coniferous forests with deodar trees and is located along the Line of Control (LoC).

Because Markhors are Pakistan’s national animal, there are no barriers preventing them from entering this section of the LoC or crossing to the other side.

“The animal can also be found in the Pir Panchal range and Kazinag National Park due to its geographical distribution and landscape. They don’t have any boundaries.

Dr. Reyaz Ahmad, Coordinator Wildlife Trust of India for Kashmir, adds, “They keep coming to this side and migrating to the other side for breeding.”

According to Reyaz, the number of Markhors in the park has increased in recent years as a result of a reduction in poaching. “The figure was 200 in a study performed two years ago, and 150 in a survey conducted eight years ago. “There is a significant difference,” adds Reyaz, who has been studying the Markhors in the valley.
