Pakistanis Donate Rs. 554 Billion to Charities Annually

According to a study by research-based advocacy and consultancy company Individualland, Pakistanis donate about Rs554 billion annually. Out of this, during Ramazan and Eid holidays, 72 percent is donated and Karachi contributes the most, the study found.

Speaking at an awareness seminar organized by the PPC, the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the Karachi Department of Social Welfare on safe charities, Habib said that research conducted by the NACTA revealed that 26% of donors remain unaware of where their donations are spent.

The Additional Secretary of the Sindh Department of Social Welfare, Abu Bakar, discussed the creation of a charitable commission in Sindh to track and carry out charitable activities and the provision of an online registration facility.

He said that to ensure that the funds are spent on the right causes, the Sindh charity commission will encourage citizens and register charitable organizations.
