In Pakistan, Eidul Fitr is a big deal as it marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting in Islam. People wait eagerly for Eid, and its date depends on when the Shawwal moon is sighted after Ramadan ends.
To make things more organized, in 2019, the then federal minister of Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhary, introduced the Lunar calendar. This calendar uses math and science to predict when religious events, like Eid, will happen instead of just waiting to see the moon.
According to this Lunar calendar, Eidul Fitr is expected to be on April 10 this year, after Ramadan lasts for 29 days.
As people eagerly wait for Eid, they start getting ready for it. Usually, there’s a tradition of starting the holidays a day before Eid, so if the government announces a four-day holiday from April 9 to April 12, people will get six days off in a row, including the weekend.
But, the government hasn’t officially announced the holiday dates yet. They’ll talk to different departments, like the PMD, to decide when the holidays will be. This way, they make sure the holiday plan works well with everyone’s religious beliefs and other important things.
