Pakistan’s Debt Burden Mounts to Rs 63,966 Billion

Pakistan’s international debt has continued to rise, reaching a significant amount of Rs 63,966 billion by the end of August in the fiscal year 2023-24.

Foreign debt had also increased to $24,174 billion, while local debt reached Rs 39,791 billion during the same period. This represents a substantial increase of Rs 14,506 billion in total loans over the past year.

In August 2022, the loan volume was considerably lower at Rs 49,571 billion. It’s worth noting that during the same time period, foreign debt was at $18 trillion, and local debt was at Rs 32,152 billion.
