Pakistan’s Marbel Sector Can Enhance Exports to $370 Million

Syed Murtaza Mahmood, Federal Minister for Industries and Production has highlighted that Pakistan’s exports of marble sector should raise 10 times in order to meet the potential as the current shipment of $37 millions are much lower and it should increase at least $370 million.

Recently, while addressing at an awareness seminar for the development of the marble and granite sector organized by ICCI (Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry) with collaboration of Pakistan Stones Development Company.

He underlined that government would make all out efforts in order to provide the best possible support to the marble sector that would results in betterment and more effective role in economic development of Pakistan.

Further, he asked the department to emphasize more on marketing and promotion to enhance trade and exports.

President ICCI Muhammad Shakeel Munir said that Pakistan had huge potential to raise exports of marble and granite products but there is no support from government.

He further said, “Over 200,000 marble units are working in the country and the government should facilitate the sector by introducing modern technology and machinery for value addition to the products.”

Shakeel forced the government to provide railway cargo service from mines to ports which would be efficient and would decrease the transportation cost and improve the volume of export.

However,Shamama Tul Amber Arbab, Development Company Chairperson seeking for government help is required for installation of modern cutting and finishing machinery in the processing units of marble, Pakistan Stone Shamama Tul Amber Arbab.

A large number of ICCI members and foreign envoys were present at the seminar including Khazar Farhadov, Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Mohamed Karmoune, Dean of African Corps and Ambassador of Morocco, Indonesian Ambasssador Adam M Tugio, Kyrgyzstan ambassador, Kazakhstan’s deputy head of mission and officials of Turkish and UAE embassies.
