Invitation has been extended to Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary and ACC President, by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to attend the inaugural clash of the Asia Cup 2023, between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30th in Multan.
The heads of cricket boards affiliated with the Asian Cricket Council have also been invited for the opening match by PCB. Nevertheless, the invitation to Jay Shah is viewed with more hope than realistic expectations of his attendance.
The PCB’s invitation to Jay Shah comes as a continuation of the communication that began with a verbal invitation from PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf during their encounter in Durban for an ICC meeting. Initially the sources indicated Jay Shah’s acceptance of the invitation, but he subsequently contradicted this, leading to a sense of uncertainty.
The kind gesture from PCB reflects their commitment to keeping sports away from politics, given the sensitive Pak-India relation. This edition of the Asia Cup holds great significance not only for its competitiveness but also for its role as a crucial preparation platform for major global events like ICC World Cups, allowing teams to refine their strategies and assess strengths and weaknesses.
