The botanical name for Chalgoza is ‘pinus gerardiana.’ Pine nuts are produced in the upper parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, the Northern Areas, and Kashmir. The Chalgoza pine is a sturdy tree that can withstand prolonged drought, strong winds, and harsh winter temperatures.
It accounts for roughly 18% of Pakistan’s coniferous forests. However, present climate change and habitat pressures negatively impact the chalgoza woods’ environment.
Chilgozas aren’t inexpensive, but they’re worth it. Due to its high price, Chilgoza costs roughly 9000 PKR per kg and has been called the “bitcoin of Pakistan” by netizens.
