Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the full restoration of its flight schedule, following the resumption of fuel supply from Pakistan State Oil (PSO). In the past three weeks, PIA had to cancel over 800 flights due to financial constraints and a fuel crisis, resulting in a significant reported loss of Rs10 billion for the national carrier.
On Wednesday, PIA suspended 24 flights, including 16 international and 8 domestic flights, due to the unavailability of fuel supply. To address this issue, PSO imposed a condition requiring PIA to make a daily payment of Rs100 million for the resumption of fuel supply.
Under this arrangement, PIA must inform PSO in advance to provide fuel for its aircraft, and the fuel will be supplied after receiving approval from the national airline. This financial condition and fuel supply agreement represent efforts to stabilize PIA’s operations and ensure that it can continue to serve passengers effectively.
The disruption in flight operations and financial losses had a substantial impact on PIA, highlighting the challenges faced by the airline industry due to economic constraints and logistical issues. The resolution of the fuel supply problem is a critical step in allowing PIA to restore its flight schedule, maintain its services, and recover from the recent disruptions.
