Pillion riding was banned for two days in Karachi by Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon on Friday.
The decision was made on the recommendation of the DIG-South Karachi, according to a notification released by the Office of the Commissioner.
The DIG said in a letter to the commissioner dated December 20 that New Year’s Eve was warmly celebrated throughout Karachi.
“Throughout the night, many young people in vehicles and on motorcycles will travel to Seaview from various parts of the city, causing traffic delays and irritating the locals.”
In order to protect the lives of the people, he had asked that a ban be placed under section 144 of the Criminal Code of Procedure on the carrying and display of weapons, aerial firing, the use of firecrackers, and pillion riding on motorcycles and scooters.
