Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is in China for a four-day visit, recently attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics 2022 at Beijing’s National Stadium with other international leaders.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, and Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar accompanied the prime minister when he arrived in China on Thursday.
Pakistani skier, Mohammad Karim of Gilgit-Baltistan was among the participants who took part in the ceremony. On February 16, the 26-year-old will compete in the Alpine Skiing Slalom event as the only Pakistani athlete.
PM Imran Khan and his delegation stood from their seats to join the crowds in cheering on Pakistan’s team as it marched through National Stadium waving the national flag.
Earlier, the Pakistan Olympic Association announced that the country will be represented in the Winter Olympics by a small four-member delegation. Besides Karim, Syed Noman Ali is the chef de mission, Nadeem Ajmal Khan is the team leader, and Mirza Mohammad Qamar is the Covid-19 liaison and coach.
