PM Imran Khan is about to launch a 581-billion-rupee development package in South Punjab to modernize ailing infrastructure, improve the electricity system, strengthen universities and provide access to information technology.
The findings revealed that about 122 projects were chosen, including initiatives that have recently been authorized but require funding and the introduction of new projects with public and private sector participation.
The premier is eager to start the projects ahead of move of no confidence, and therefore, Planning Minister Asad Umar has written to Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar to finish any outstanding stakeholder engagements.
Although the start of the package has been accelerated, the Rs. 581 billion proposal had been in the works for several weeks before the opposition parties decided to file a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.
According to senior planning ministry officials, the package was finalised with input from the Punjab government and the South Punjab Secretariat and was already presented to PM Imran Khan during his visit to Lahore last week.
