PM Khan Inaugurates the Succession Certificate Initiative of NADRA

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will launch the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) initiative’s issuance of Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates on Thursday, 21 January 2020, at the Islamabad office of the PM.

The bill has been passed as an answer to the issues that the legal heirs of deceased persons face in obtaining letters of administration and succession certificates from the court. This new initiative will save them tons of expenses and time and can release the courts from an important and time-consuming burden.

The Ministry of Law worked with NADRA to plan a mechanism for the development of succession facilitation units for the issuance, within 15 days of the initiation of their applications, of letters of administration and succession certificates to legal heirs of deceased persons.

Prior to this development, it might take between two to seven years for heirs to accumulate such letters via the courts. Now, NADRA will use biometric identification to issue the certificates within a few of weeks.

PM Khan entrusted the task of overhauling the system to the Federal Minister for Law, Dr. Muhammad Farogh Naseem. The Minister has been diligently working to draught bills that benefit the commoner, and one of them is therefore the enactment of the Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates Act, 2020.
