Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the Daanish University project in Islamabad, with a total cost of £190 million (Rs 60 billion). The funding for this initiative comes from money originally recovered by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and later transferred to Pakistan’s treasury with the help of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
The university aims to provide quality higher education to students across the country, with a special focus on free education for underprivileged students. The first phase of the university is expected to be completed by August 14, 2026.
To ensure the university’s long-term sustainability, the government will create a trust fund with an initial investment of Rs10 billion. Over time, the institution will generate funds by charging fees to wealthy students, while those in need will continue to receive free education.
This project reflects the government’s commitment to improving education in Pakistan and providing opportunities for students regardless of their financial background. With the launch of Daanish University, more students will have access to higher education, helping shape a better future for the country.
