On Tuesday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced that Shehbaz Sharif will be their choice for the position of prime minister. The decision was made after discussions within the party.
There are reports suggesting that Maryam Nawaz, who is the Chief Organiser of PML-N, might be nominated as the candidate for the position of Punjab chief minister. However, the final decision about the prime ministerial candidate will be made in consultation with allied parties. Both nominations, Shehbaz Sharif for prime minister and Maryam Nawaz for Punjab chief minister, received approval from Nawaz Sharif, the leader of PML-N.
Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif, who is also the President of PML-N, expressed his gratitude to former President Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for their support to the party. He mentioned this in a statement shared on social media.
In the same statement, the former prime minister mentioned a telephone conversation he had with Zardari and Bhutto-Zardari. He conveyed thanks on behalf of Nawaz Sharif for their endorsement. Shehbaz Sharif also expressed hope that together, as a nation, they can address the political and economic challenges facing Pakistan.
