Powerful Earthquake Strikes Morocco, Hundreds Died

On Friday night, a very strong earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the scale that measures earthquakes, hit Morocco. This earthquake caused a lot of damage and woke up people living in the High Atlas mountains.

Sadly, more than 300 people have lost their lives due to this earthquake. The US Geological Survey, which studies earthquakes, says that the earthquake started deep in the High Atlas Mountains, about 18.5 kilometers below the ground. The shaking began at 11:11 PM local time, and a smaller aftershock, which is like a smaller earthquake that happens after the big one, followed a few minutes later, measuring 4.9 in magnitude.

News from around the world has reported that about 300 people have died, and there’s a possibility that this number could increase. Most of the people who lost their lives lived in remote areas in the mountains, which makes it difficult for rescue teams to reach them.

Because of this disaster, many buildings, including a tall tower in a historic city, fell down. Very sad pictures of what happened and people looking for safety on the roads have been shared a lot on social media.
