Asif Ali, a power batter, will lead United in the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League, taking over for Shadab Khan, who is out with a groyne injury.
In yet another setback for Islamabad, Khan and young pacer Zeeshan Zameer have been ruled out of today’s game against Zalmi, the franchise said late Wednesday.
Khan, who had already dealt with a slew of medical concerns, was hit again again and walked back without bowling a single delivery against the Karachi Kings.
“In the absence of Shadab Khan, Asif Ali will captain Islamabad United for the first time in the PSL against Peshawar Zalmi,” Islamabad United said in a tweet.
Asif Ali, an aggressive striker, has been instrumental in Islamabad United’s success, and he has also drawn attention for his outstanding fielding. ‘Shaddy’ backup Zahid Mehmood has been named.
