Punjab Launches Free Solar Panel Program for Over 90,000 Households

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced the Chief Minister Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme through a digital balloting system. This program aims to help people struggling with high electricity bills by providing solar panels at no cost.

In the first phase, 94,483 solar systems will be installed for households that use up to 200 units of electricity per month. The response to the scheme has been overwhelming, with more than 861,000 people applying for the program. Installations are set to begin by the end of March, and the first phase is expected to be completed by July.

This initiative will not only reduce electricity expenses for thousands of families but also contribute to environmental protection. By shifting to solar energy, Punjab will cut down carbon emissions by 57,000 tonnes, making a positive impact on climate change.

Additionally, the project will ease the financial burden on the federal government by reducing the need for electricity subsidies. With rising energy costs, this move is seen as a step toward a more sustainable and affordable power solution for the people of Punjab.

The government hopes that this initiative will improve the quality of life for many and encourage the use of renewable energy across the province.
