The Punjab Police has agreed to buy state-of-the-art GSM locators to curb recent spikes in the province’s criminal activities.
IGP Punjab, Inam Ghani recently submitted a revised summary for a purchase order to purchase real-time monitoring devices to the provincial government. The procurement price for the GSM locators is Rs. 400 million, according to the summary.
Modern navigation technology would allow the police to arrest suspects in less time, he said.
Recent incidents have demonstrated how difficult it is for police officers, when a victim or witness reports it to correctly navigate towards a possible crime scene. GSM location information will help locate the nearest police car or team to a crime scene and ensure that police officers remain in their designated zones. This will hopefully help minimize the time for police reaction when illegal activity happens nearby and ensure the region’s public safety.
Until recently, there were just fifteen GSM locators purchased by the Punjab Police a little over a decade ago. The new state-of-the-art GSM locators will be dispatched to the CTD and the Special Branch Punjab after procurement.
On the special insistence of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar, the IGP Punjab sent a detailed description of the purchase order for the units.
